Avicenna Centre for Brain Health offers counselling, psychology, and therapy for individuals, couples, and families at our North Delta clinic, serving Delta, Surrey, and the Fraser Valley. Whether you are managing anxiety, working through a hard chapter, healing from trauma, or simply want support from a qualified professional, our therapy team is here to help. Because our counsellors and psychologists work inside a full multidisciplinary mental health clinic, your care can be coordinated with psychiatric and medical support whenever that is useful, which a standalone counselling practice cannot offer.
Counselling and therapy do not require a physician referral, so this is one of the most direct ways to begin care at Avicenna. Sessions are available in person at our Delta clinic and by secure video across British Columbia.
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Our team supports people dealing with:
Our psychologists and counsellors offer a range of evidence-based approaches, matched to your needs by your provider:
Our team also provides dedicated anxiety counselling and depression counselling.
Our psychologists are registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, and our counsellors are Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC) who are members of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. You are working with qualified, regulated professionals throughout your care.
Many people begin therapy on its own, and that is completely fine. For others, therapy is recommended after a psychiatric consultation as part of a broader treatment plan. Because Avicenna brings psychiatry, psychology, and allied health together under one roof, your therapist can work in step with the rest of your care team when appropriate. This is especially valuable when therapy and medication are most effective together.
You do not need a referral from a family doctor or nurse practitioner to access counselling, psychology, or therapy at Avicenna. Contact us directly and our team will help match you with the right therapist and approach. If you are already an Avicenna patient, your care coordinator can connect you with therapy as part of your plan.
Counselling and psychology in private practice are not covered by the Medical Services Plan (MSP), so they are private-pay services. Many extended health and employer benefit plans reimburse some or all of the cost. Counselling may also be covered through an ICBC claim after a motor vehicle accident, or a WorkSafeBC claim for a workplace injury. Our coordinators can help you understand your coverage and what to expect before you begin. For current rates, see our Fees and Payments page.
We also offer a Low-Cost Counselling program, an affordable option where you may meet with a Masters-level counselling student for your counselling needs. Please note that Low-Cost Counselling providers are not Registered Clinical Counsellors. Ask our team about current availability.
Therapy is one of the most flexible services we offer. You can be seen in person at our North Delta clinic, or by secure video anywhere in British Columbia, which saves travel time and makes it easier to keep regular appointments. Ask our team which option suits you best.
Avicenna is not an urgent or crisis service. If you or someone you care about is in crisis, please call 911, call or text the 988 Suicide Crisis Helpline, or call the BC Mental Health Support Line at 310-6789.

A psychiatrist is a physician who focuses on diagnosis and medication. Therapy is talk-based treatment delivered by a counsellor or psychologist. Avicenna offers both and can coordinate them when that is the right approach.
