I am very happy with my experience with Avicenna Centre for Brain Health. I had a video call appointment with Dr. Javed and he spent approximately an hour talking with me and listening to my experiences and all the different medications and therapies that I have tried. He was very thorough and walked me through exactly what he wants me to try differently. He explained how my current medications work and their side effects, as well as how the new medications will work and their side effects. In the past, I had a pretty poor experience with a psychiatrist who always rushed me and didn’t take the time to listen to my concerns, so I was very grateful to speak with Dr. Javed. I am encouraged by what I believe to be an accurate diagnosis and the opportunity to try a new medication.
Avicenna Centre of Brain Health is super awesome! The staff are very professional and helpful. They were also super responsive and accommodating of my timeline. They were also great with virtual appointments and scheduling online as I was not able to make it in person!
Firstly the fact I fad to give up help because I moved from one health authority region to another, gettting me a phone call to work towards therapy was incredible considering the load carried by ALL mental health workers across the country. Due to circumstances in my life currently, I can’t afford the $8k for a second round of private group DBT. Having this quick access group provided to me is a lifesaver. I mean that quite literally.
My daughter has been struggling with seizures, anxiety and mild depression for years and has been to neurologists, BC Children’s and spoken to numerous doctors and paediatricians. She was referred to Avicenna and we spoke to a psychiatrist (Dr. Singh) who finally was able to put all the pieces together with what she had been experiencing and provided some great treatment options. Being bounced around rehashing feelings was hard on her and it was nice to feel heard and provided with viable options.
Dr Singh was incredibly helpful for my daughter’s medication review and mental health struggles. He actually listened to her needs, when we have sought help from 2 other psychiatrists and a pediatrician. Dr Singh was kind, and patient, and really connected with my child. I would recommend Dr Singh. We waited 6 months for this referral even though we had seen a psychiatrist 2 yrs ago. Too bad we couldn’t see that psychiatrist for follow up, Avicenna treated us like a brand new case, but we, luckily, got a great doctor, Dr Singh went above our expectations.
The staff were very kind and incredibly helpful getting everything set up for my initial appointment, and Dr Rodriguez was absolutely wonderful. She never made me feel rushed, listened intently to everything I said and explained the diagnosis in a way I understood. She has continued to follow-up after my diagnosis and has also sent information to my GP about the diagnosis for accurate long-term follow-up. I would highly recommend Avicenna!
I was referred to this clinic to see a psychiatrist and had a great experience. The office contacted me a week after my referral was sent, and I had a video appointment with Dr. Khan the SAME day. I was originally told by my referring doctor it would be a 2-4 month wait for an appointment. The staff I talked to over the phone were very polite and helpful. I have had bad experiences talking about my mental health with doctors in the past, but this was a very pleasant experience. Dr. Khan was very nice and caring. Thank you to your staff.
