Avicenna Centre for Brain Health
Avicenna Centre for Brain Health is a Private Multi-Disciplinary Mental Health Clinic. Our team consists of health care professionals from a variety of disciplines that make receiving care increasingly coordinated and less stressful for our long list of patients. Services are provided by expert Psychiatrists, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals who are highly specialized in their respective fields.
Here at Avicenna Centre for Brain Health, our goal is to enhance the lives of individuals and their families who experience a wide range of conditions that affect the mind through modeling excellence in clinical care, educating, and providing team-based preventative care.
Who is this clinic for?
Avicenna Centre for Brain Health is for patients entering via referrals from Family Doctors and/or Nurse Practioners. Our Psychiatrist Consults are specifically for patients with mild to moderate mental health illnesses.
Note: Avicenna Centre for Brain Health is not an Urgent Care Response Centre. If patients are in crisis, then please call 911 and utilize public mental health services.
How do appointments work?
Patients can expect to meet with a Psychiatrist for an initial assessment. In this session, the Psychiatrist will provide recommendations including medication and psychosocial intervention. For medication management, patients would liaise with their family physician to implement those recommendations. Our Patient Care Coordinator will connect with the patient to discuss psychosocial intervention. They will provide details of private-pay allied health services that exist at Avicenna Centre for Brain Health.
Please note that family doctors or Nurse Practicioners maintain ongoing responsibility for mental health care after the initial assessment is complete.
Our Operations
A family physician referral is required for psychiatry consultations. A history review, documenting past psychiatric treatments, and information from significant others may be done prior to your appointment depending on the Consulting Physician who will be treating you.
At Avicenna Centre For Brain Health, our Physician’s care plans revolve around a pharmacotherapeutic approach. In simple terms, this means our Physician’s typically take a consultation role in your care plan and then recommend the treatments which best suit you. For psychotherapeutic care, patients can take part in our Therapy Program where they will be paired with an expert Avicenna Counsellor or Psychologist to receive the appropriate physician recommended therapy. These are private-pay services which may be covered by your extended benefits plan.
For the most part, Psychiatry at Avicenna Centre for Brain Health follows a one time consultation approach and the primary care physician remains responsible for providing the patient with ongoing care. Health Navigation will be provided by coordinators to ensure patients know how and where to meet all their care needs.
Avicenna Centre For Brain Health also runs a variety of clinical modules under our organization. Patients can contact the clinic directly to access the Adult ADHD Clinic, Child ADHD Clinic, Memory Clinic, Esketamine Clinic, Genecept Assay and our Allied Health Services. In this case, a coordinator from your module of interest will reach out and guide you through the necessary procedures needed to receive Clinical Care from that module.
Please Note: No family physicians referral required to access Allied Health services.
Our services aggregate into a unique and comprehensive continuum of care that secures the mental health services each and every one of our patients need.
