Therapy Program

Avicenna Centre For Brain Health’s Therapy Program is where patients can experience psychosocial care at our clinic. The Program revolves around Counselling and Psychology services.

Our psychological services include a range of diagnostics, treatments, and psychoeducational assessments to provide you or a loved one with the necessary psychological care. All psychologists at our practice are registered with the CPBC.

We also offer counselling services. These are typically one on one, but group sessions may be arranged depending on circumstance. No matter what troubles you, our compassionate and highly trained counsellors are here to work with you to find solutions and bring meaningful change to your life. Our counselling team consists of Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC) which means they are registered with BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Some services offered by our Registered Clinical Counsellors include, individual counselling, couples counselling, family counselling, anxiety counselling and depression counselling. Our diversified team of RCCs can address any counselling needs our patients may require.

Furthermore, we have a diversified mode of therapies varying based on the patient’s individual needs. These are provided by Psychologist or Counsellors depending on the patient’s care plan. The list includes but is not limited to,

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: CBT is a psychosocial intervention that aims to improve mental health by focusing on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviours, improving emotional regulation and developing personal coping strategies that target solving current problems.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy: DBT is an evidence-based psychotherapy program. Evidence suggests DBT is useful for treating mood disorders, suicidal ideation and changing behaviour patterns such as self-harm and substance abuse.

Supportive Psychotherapy: A form of psychotherapy that relies on the therapeutic alliance to alleviate symptoms, improve self-esteem, restore relation to reality, regulate impulses and negative thinking, and reinforce the ability to cope with life stressors and challenges

Trauma Focused Therapy: an evidence-based psychotherapy or counselling that aims at addressing the needs of children and adolescents with post-traumatic stress disorder and other difficulties related to traumatic life events.

Behaviour Analysis/Therapy: Behavior analysis is a natural science that seeks to understand the behavior of individuals. That is, behavior analysts’ study how biological, pharmacological, and experiential factors influence the behavior of people.

Additionally, we are excited to announce the launch of our Low-Cost Counselling program. This is an affordable option where patients may be able to visit a current Masters level University Student for their counselling needs.

NOTE: Low-Cost Counselling service providers are not registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Avicenna Centre For Brain Health is currently accepting new Therapy Program patients. No doctor’s referral is required to access Therapy services.

This program is not covered by MSP but may be covered in your extended health insurance plan. Services may also be covered by your ICBC and WorkSafe claims. You can contact the clinic directly and request to speak with a Patient Care Coordinator for more information.
